Died June 19, 2012  :   Brantford, Ontario


FILES: Passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Angela Ella Magdalena Daechsel for 54 years. Loving father of James (Deanna), Robert (Valerie) Files and Angela Brock (Lawrence). Loving grandfather of Carly, Katie, Elyse, Robert, Jennie and Emma.


James was predeceased by his parents Jennie Ellen (nee Lamb) and Robert Franklin Files and siblings; Hugh, Robert, Frank, Catherine and Margaret. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and the entire Files family.


James was a graduate of Tyndale University, Concordia University and the Presbyterian College of McGill University. He was the first permanent Chaplain hired by the Ontario Government. He was Chaplain at the Simcoe Boys Training School for 5 years and then worked at the Burtch Correctional Centre near Brantford until his retirement.


James was very active in a number of other capacities. He held the office of Evangelism and Theological Student Training for the Ministry in the Paris Presbytery. He and Angela shared an interest in genealogy and James served as the chair of the Grand River Branch of the United Empire Loyalists Association of Canada and of the Brant Chapter of the Ontario Genealogical Society. He was the recipient of the Province of Ontario Award for Community Service. James appreciated the friendship bonds he formed in the Kiwanis Club of Grand River, the Brantford Men's Probus Club, the United Empire Loyalist Association and his membership at both the Alexandra Presbyterian Church and the Central Presbyterian Church in Brantford.


Friends will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 -10:30 a.m. A Communion Wake will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home on Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 97 Wellington Street, Brantford with Rev. John Cruickshank and Rev. Glenn Kukkola officiating. Interment will take place on Tuesday at the Dresden Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.
